چکیده
Abstract Excavations at the Chalcolithic site Fazael in central Jordan Valley uncovered a large number of metal items, many them polymetallic copper alloys cast lost wax technique. Metallography and SEM–EDS analysis on subset assemblage confirm previous notions metallurgy Southern Levant but extend significantly three aspects: The is slightly depleted its arsenic content compared to assemblages from other sites, silt-sized quartz inclusions unalloyed presence inclusions. These latter provide earliest direct evidence for mixing different types West Asia, potentially alloying or recycling.

Chemical evidence for wine production around 4000 BCE in the Late Chalcolithic Near Eastern highlands
Archaeological excavations in the Areni-1 cave complex in southeastern Armenia revealed installations and artifacts dating to around 4000 cal. BCE that are strongly indicative of wine production. Chemical evidence for this hypothesis is presented here using a new method to detect the anthocyanin malvidin that gives grapes and pomegranates their red color. Using solid phase extraction (SPE) and ...
متن کاملThe Chronology of the Ghassulian Chalcolithic Period in the Southern Levant: New 14c Determinations from Teleilat Ghassul, Jordan
This article reports on ten new accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) dates from the Chalcolithic period (fifth millennium BC) archaeological type-site of Teleilat Ghassul in Jordan. Early radiocarbon assays from the site proved difficult to integrate with current relative chronological formulations. The ten new AMS dates and follow-up enquiries connected with the early assays suggest that the or...

The Chalcolithic Radiocarbon Record and Its Use in Southern Levantine Archaeology
Archaeological evidence suggests that the Chalcolithic period (5th–4th millennium BCE) in the southern Levant was a time of significant settlement expansion and increasing social complexity. Important technological and social developments during this era set the stage for the later rise of fortified sites and nascence of urbanization in the Early Bronze Age. Controversy surrounding the chronolo...
متن کاملThe onset of faba bean farming in the Southern Levant
Even though the faba bean (Vicia faba L.) is among the most ubiquitously cultivated crops, very little is known about its origins. Here, we report discoveries of charred faba beans from three adjacent Neolithic sites in the lower Galilee region, in the southern Levant, that offer new insights into the early history of this species. Biometric measurements, radiocarbon dating and stable carbon is...
